Maria Karakatsani has been professionally engaged in ceramics since 1984, when she began making series of utilitarian and ornamental objects in limited numbers. She has participated in fiften Panhellenic ceramics exhibitions. six group exhibitions at the municipalities of Pefki, Amarousiou, Melissia and Marlopouio, in the 3rd Exhibition of Contemporary Ceramics Association of Ceramics Artists of Greece, in the art gallery EPOHES, in the XIV BIENNALE INTERNATIONALE DE CERAMIQUE D ART VALLOURIS and in the FOUNDATION FOR HELLENIC CULTURE, LONDON, in the Peiraias Art Museum, in the 5th CAIRO INTERNATIONAL BIENNALE FOR CERAMICS 2000.
She has also participated in the symposia for ceramics organized by the Chamber of Fine Art for Hellenic-Turkish friendship in Mantamado, Lesvos and in Tsesme, Smyrni, organized by the municipalities of Rafina and Constantinople.
Maria Karakatsani was awarded the prize of Artistic Ceramics by the Ministry of Culture in 1987, and in 1993 she received a laudation from the Association of Ceramics Artists of Greece and the Panhellenic Confederation of Handicrafts Artistic pottery and Ceramics.
She has been a member of the Chamber of Fine Arts of Greece since 1996. her curriculum vitae is included in the Dictionary of Greek Artists, by MERLISSA Publications.
Maria Karakatsani has taught cermaics in nursery schools, to adults as professional education, and also at the ceramics workshop of the Municipality of Melissia Cultural Centre.
